02 EXCURSION TO GOLDEN CIRCLE TOUR

Today is the first day of your active adventure. You’ll be picked up by a super jeep that has been specially equipped to drive on glaciers. Your driver-guide will take you around the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route.

First you’ll stop at Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park. The park’s epic scenery was one the backdrop for the Alþingi, Iceland’s Viking-era parliament. Þingvellir is also packed with waterfalls and flooded canyons, where witches would once have been drowned!

Now from history to geology. Your next stop is Geysir, a geothermal area with hot springs and geysers. Here you’ll see the Strokkur geyser erupt every few minutes, with its jet of hot water reaching 20 meters (65 feet) into the air.

Then you’ll head to Gullfoss, the last stop on the Golden Circle route. These breathtaking falls are where the Hvítá river crashes over a 32-meter (105-foot) rock face. They can look particularly breathtaking in winter, when they sometimes freeze over!

It’s time now to hop back in the super jeep and head up to the Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second largest. Your driver-guide will take you to base camp, where you’ll switch to 2-person snowmobiles and glide across the surface of the glacier.

03 BLUE LAGOON SPA AND NORTHERN LIGHTS DAY HUNT

This morning is yours in Reykjavík. You could spend it grabbing brunch near the old harbor and exploring the nearby neighborhoods. Or simply having a lie-in.

Your bus will pick you up from your hotel just after midday, when you’ll be driven to the Blue Lagoon. Iceland’s first and most famous geothermal spa, the Blue Lagoon is a must-do experience. Spend the afternoon unwinding in the spa’s silica-rich blue waters.

You’ll then return to Reykjavík, where you can grab dinner before the evening’s fun.

Your bus will pick you back up in the evening and you’ll head out deep into the Icelandic countryside on your Northern Lights hunt. Away from the city’s glowing lights, you’ll have the best chances of spotting the aurora.

If the skies are clear and fortune is in your favor, you’ll witness these majestic multi-colored ribbons dancing above you.

Good to know: The Northern Lights (also called the Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed, even with clear skies. The tour may be canceled if weather conditions are unfavorable, but you’ll receive a full refund.

04 HIKE TO KOTLUJOKULL CAVE

After the R&R of day 3, it’s time to jump back in a super jeep! Today’s expedition will take you to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Your driver-guide will whisk you up onto the glacier and issue you with safety gear. Now you’re all set to head out on your glacier hike adventure.

Look out for unusual patterns and shapes in the ice and peer into deep crevasses. You’ll soon arrive at Kötlujökull, home to a hidden ice cave. The glacier takes its name from Katla, one of Iceland’s sleeping volcanoes.

As you explore the cave, you’ll notice different patterns in the icy walls formed by alternating layers of volcanic ash and glacial ice.

You’ll also stop at the jaw-dropping Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can actually walk behind. And if you’re traveling between 1 February and 15 November, you’ll also stop at its bigger brother Skógafoss just down the road.
