Tour Plan

01 ARRIVAL IN ICELAND

Transfer from Keflavík International Airport to your hotel in Reykjavík (included).

It’s the first day of your adventure trip, and time to get acquainted with Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital! Stroll around the center and snap the cute streets lined with colorful houses. Or soak up some culture at one (or more) of the city’s galleries and museums.

Depending on what time you arrive in Iceland, you may be able to fit in a stop at the Blue Lagoon on the way to Reykjavík. What better way to relax and recharge after your flight?

In the evening

Spend the night on a magical Northern Lights hunt! Included with your package is a large group bus tour to a dark-skied location that’s perfect for spotting the lights.

You also have the option to upgrade to a small group excursion for a more intimate experience, or even a trip via super jeep or boat if you’re feeling adventurous!

Good to know: The Northern Lights (also called the Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed, even with clear skies. The tour may be canceled if weather conditions are unfavorable, but you’ll have the chance to join the same or a similar excursion for free later in your trip.

02 EXCURSION TO GOLDEN CIRCLE TOUR

Wake up in Reykjavík and enjoy your included breakfast, before getting stuck right into Icelandic nature. Today you’ll travel the Golden Circle: Iceland’s most famous touring route (and for good reason). See the Strokkur geyser blow steam 25 meters (80 feet) into the air every 4–8 minutes.

Then continue to the Gullfoss waterfall, where the Hvítá river rolls over a sheer rock face some 32 meters (105 feet) high. At this time of year, parts of it may even be frozen!

Next is Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park. It was here that Viking-age settlers, Iceland’s first inhabitants, would hold parliament. It’s also the best place to see the gorge between the North American and Eurasian plates, which are slowly drifting apart.

Included with this tour is a stop at the Friðheimar greenhouse. Here you’ll learn how Icelanders use their country’s geothermal resources to grow tomatoes and cucumbers all year round.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to a different adventure on this day. All experiences include a Golden Circle tour, so you won’t miss out on this classic touring route.

03 ICE CAVING AT KATLA

Today you’re in for a real adventure. Step into a specially adapted super jeep, throw on your glacier gear, and brace yourself for your glacier expedition!

Your guide will drive you up onto the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, Iceland’s fourth largest. Once you’re there, you’ll set out on a hike across the glacier’s surface. As you walk over the thick ice sheet, you’ll pass by cavernous crevasses and mind-bending ice formations.

Then you’ll arrive at Kötlujökull, where you’ll step into a jaw-dropping black and blue ice cave. This glacier sits on Katla, one of Iceland’s dormant volcanoes. Here you’ll see how the volcano and ice have interacted over centuries.

You’ll also stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can actually walk behind. And if you’re traveling between 1 February and 15 November, you’ll also stop at its bigger brother Skógafoss just down the road.

04 HIKE TO KOTLUJOKULL CAVE

After the R&R of day 3, it’s time to jump back in a super jeep! Today’s expedition will take you to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Your driver-guide will whisk you up onto the glacier and issue you with safety gear. Now you’re all set to head out on your glacier hike adventure.

Look out for unusual patterns and shapes in the ice and peer into deep crevasses. You’ll soon arrive at Kötlujökull, home to a hidden ice cave. The glacier takes its name from Katla, one of Iceland’s sleeping volcanoes.

As you explore the cave, you’ll notice different patterns in the icy walls formed by alternating layers of volcanic ash and glacial ice.

You’ll also stop at the jaw-dropping Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can actually walk behind. And if you’re traveling between 1 February and 15 November, you’ll also stop at its bigger brother Skógafoss just down the road.
